SCHOR 2017 RULES...

SCHOR 2017
HO SLOT CAR RACING - OFFICIAL RULES

In order to keep things from falling into chaos and to maintain some semblance of organization and fairness, you pretty much need some rules.  In the case of auto racing, and I mean ANY auto racing - from real cars all the way down to HO scale slot cars - you DEFINITELY need some rules!   Here are the current SCHOR 2016 rules.  Our General rules are pretty comparable to what you'll see in most of the national and regional HO clubs and organizations across the country, and our Super Stock and NEO classes are also very similar.  But just like other places, here in SO CAL we do have a few things that we like to do our own way (like Hardbodies and our "So-Cal" Modifieds).   So check 'em out...

  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL RULES

1. Maximum allowable length of the entire car is 3.00 inches. Maximum allowable width is 1.3125 inches. Minimum allowable wheelbase is 1.375 inches. Maximum allowable lateral front axle movement is .03125 inches.

2. Body should be a scale replica of an actual 1:1 racing or street car. Body can be of the vacuum -formed variety. Vacuum-formed body must have clear front wheel openings (if front wheel wells are not cut out). The body must be painted. Except through legal openings, the body must cover the chassis when viewed from the sides and above. Any car without a body or an interfering body will not be allowed to continue to run.

BEST LOOKING RACE CAR...

"Best Looking Race Car"

Although many newer SCHOR racers may not be aware of it, SCHOR has a long tradition of presenting attractive and realistic looking HO Slot cars.  Many well known long-time SCHOR members including Jim "Concours" Williams, Dave Rothwell (of Rothwell Bodies), Pete Santini (Santini Paint), and others have showcase their formidable painting and detailing skills while racing in SCHOR.

In honor of that long tradition - and in appreciation of the very nice work and effort that many current SCHOR racers are putting into their slot cars we are introducing the "BEST LOOKING RACE CAR" or "BLRC" classification.  BLRC is not a Concours class!  It is a Race Car Class and it only applies to cars that are ENTERED and RACED in a given SCHOR event.

BLRC is also a NEW POINTS CATEGORY.  There will be One (1) Racing Point awarded to the best looking HO slot car that is entered into each racing class of the day.  That means you can get 1 point for Am Hardbody, 1 point for Am Super Stock, 1 point for NEO, etc.

Slot cars will be judged right before each race by 3 SCHOR racers.

"A Clean Car is a Fast Car": The Best Looking Race car that wins each class will have that one winning point/s added to the overall total points accumulated for that days racing class.  Also BLRC points will be tracked throughout the year and the top 3 racer/s with the most BLRC points for each class will receive awards and the end of the SCHOR racing season.

2017 SCHOR PRO & AM "SO-CAL"MODIFIED Rules...

"SO-CAL" PRO MODIFIED
(The fast and the furious!)

The SCHOR Pro-Mod class is a little different than the Pro-Modified classes that you'll find in most of the large racing organizations.  The main difference is a boost in horsepower.  In SCHOR, a Pro Modified can run armatures as hot as 2.5 OHMs.  This makes for a SMOKIN' FAST slot car that has no trouble pulling the level 25 magnets that have been on the scene for quite a while now.

The SCHOR Pro Modified Class HO racing class is open to racers of all experience levels as long as the entered car is in compliance with the rules for this class:

SCHOR Modified rule changes as of 2015

Over the past couple of years HO slot car parts manufacturers have gone from producing machined Ceramic and High Grade Polymer Magnets to now making less-costly and not-as-strong "Bonded Polymer Magnets". This change has created a lot of confusion and brought about a shake-up of the racing rules, especially in the Modified and the Restriced Open (R/O) racing classes across the country. We here at SCHOR have up until now been able to side step these changes.  But now, after a lot of thought, we have come up with a way to integrate the new "bonded" products into our existing SCHOR Modified class. The adjustments below spell out the changes, and since the new Bonded Polymer Configuration is actually slower than the traditional SCHOR Modified Configuration we don't anticipate any problems with this alteration.   So now you can legally run either set-up and see which one works best for you on a given SCHOR track.

2017 "SO-CAL MODIFIED" RULES
Must meet all SCHOR General and Super Stock
rules except for the following:

 1. Armatures may be rewound, trued, epoxied, balanced, etc. Single pole resistance for any armature cannot be less than 2.5 ohms (or 36 gauge arm) measured pole to pole at room temperature.
